Six Killed In Yobe Road Accident


At least six people have been confirmed dead, with 8 others injured, in a tragic motor accident that occurred along Potiskum–Fika Road, around Maiduwa Junction, in Yobe State.

The incident occurred when a Sharon vehicle with registration number PKM 549 YZ, driven by one Adamu Hassan, lost control while conveying passengers from Potiskum to Bajoga, Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State, resulting in a fatal crash.

An Eyewitness told Daily Trust that as a result of the accident, six passengers tragically lost their lives on the spot, while eight others sustained various degrees of injuries.

“Six people have lost their lives while eight others including women sustained various degrees of injuries. They were rushed to the General Hospital Fika where a medical doctor confirmed their death” He said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to our reporter.

He attributed the unfortunate incident to over-speeding, reckless and dangerous driving, unnecessary overtaking, and drug abuse by some commercial drivers.

He further said the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured victims.

He also called on drivers and road users to always adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and avoid behaviours that endanger their lives and those of others.
