The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to disclose full details of ₦18.6 billion allegedly missing from the National Assembly Commission Office Complex project.
In a letter dated October 18, 2025, signed by SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, the group referenced the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 report, which flagged irregularities in the project’s contract award and execution.
The report revealed that ₦11.6 billion was paid to an unidentified construction company, while an additional ₦6.9 billion was allegedly spent on converting a roof garden into office space without proper authorization.
SERAP described these as “grim allegations” that undermine public trust and potentially violate the Nigerian Constitution.
“The National Assembly must lead by example to fulfill its oversight and anti-corruption duties,” the letter stated.
The organization demanded transparency on the recipient company’s identity, including its directors, shareholders, and registered address.
It also called for the matter to be referred to anti-corruption agencies for investigation and recovery of any misappropriated funds.SERAP warned that failure to comply within seven days would lead to legal action to enforce accountability.
The group emphasized that transparency in public resource management, as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution and the UN Convention against Corruption, is critical for national prosperity and citizens’ welfare.
