The Nigerian team have emerged victorious in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals for the third time, solidifying the country’s reputation as a hub for young football talent.

Executive Director, FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria Mr. Victor Edeh, while congratulating the team on their remarkable achievement, highlighted the growth and development of the players throughout the tournament.

According to Mr Edeh, the victory is a testament to the project’s consistent delivery over the years, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills and grow into professional footballers.

“It’s great to see the boys record success in the end after some tricky games,” Edeh said, praising the team’s resilience and determination.

“Delighted that we are now the country who have won the youth cup more than anyone else. Beyond that, the cultural exchange and the growth the boys undergo throughout the tournament from the regional qualifiers, all the way up to the world finals is remarkable. We have delivered the project consistently over the years”.

Edeh emphasised the importance of strategic talent development, stating that Nigeria needs to be intentional about scouting and nurturing young talent to give them the best chance to succeed globally.

“For the boys, it validates their ability on a global level and gives them the motivation to go back home and keep developing and working hard to return in the near future as professionals,” he said.

“For Nigeria, it shows that we have the talent to deliver on the global stage but we have to be strategic about our scouting and talent development to give our best talent the right environment to excel locally and globally”, the elated Director said

He also highlighted the project’s impact, citing examples of past participants who have gone on to play professionally, including Victor Orakpo and Daniel Francis.

The FC Bayern Youth Cup is a prestigious international youth football competition that brings together top young teams from around the world to compete and showcase their skills.

The tournament serves as a platform for scouting and identifying talented young players, with many past participants going on to sign professional contracts with top European clubs.
