Mozambican champions, Black Bulls, claimed a narrow 1–0 victory over Nigeria’s Rivers United in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round clash on Saturday in Maputo.
The tightly contested encounter was marked by defensive discipline from both sides, with few clear chances in the opening half. The deadlock was broken just five minutes after the restart when Moctar Diallo slotted home for the hosts.
Despite Rivers United’s late push for an equaliser, Black Bulls held on to secure a vital home win. The Nigerian side must now win by at least two clear goals in the return leg in Port Harcourt to advance to the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
Rivers United remain Nigeria’s sole representative in this season’s CAF Champions League.
