South-east youths mourn Rev. Uma Ukpai

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as a “true general of the gospel” whose life and ministry touched millions across the world.

In a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the apex sociopolitical youth body in the South East said Rev. Ukpai, who died at the age of 80, left behind a lasting legacy of faith, service, and evangelism.

Born in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Rev. Ukpai was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Ministry, through which he inspired spiritual revival and transformed countless lives in Nigeria and beyond.

“Words hardly capture the depth of loss felt by us and countless others at the passing of this highly revered Man of God,” the statement read. “Rev. Uma Ukpai was more than a preacher; he was a true Gospel General whose life embodied unwavering faith, courageous proclamation, and relentless service to God’s Kingdom.”

COSEYL noted that the cleric’s ministry transcended borders, reaching individuals and communities across continents through messages of hope, empowerment, and love. The group said his commitment to serving others and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ would continue to inspire generations to come.

“Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” Ibem added. “We ask God to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and to find comfort in the rich legacy that Rev. Uma Ukpai leaves behind.”

The group described Rev. Ukpai as not only a father in the faith but also a global spiritual icon whose influence spanned communities and nations.

“Though he is no longer physically with us, his positive impact will continue to live on in the many lives he touched,” COSEYL said. “As we honor his memory, we are reminded that his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
