Abdul Zango, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, has confirmed the arrest of about 100 political thugs by the Police in Bagawi, in respect of the ongoing by-election in Bagwai-Shanono state constituency of Kano state.
Zango, who made the disclosure while speaking with Journalists, said the arrest was in connection with attempts to disrupt the voting process in the area, which he described to be going successfully at the time of filing this report.
He said that the arrested thugs will be arraigned, as stipulated by the law, noting that overall, the election is proceeding smoothly, and everything is moving peacefully.
According to him, information available indicates that voting is going on smoothly in most of the voting booths in the areas participating in the election, across the state.
“I am happy to inform you that the report in our possession is suggesting that the election is proceeding peacefully in all the voting areas, but we are also told that about 100 political thugs were arrested in connection with attempts to disrupt the election”, he said
Meanwhile, voting is also ongoing in some of the polling booths in Guri/Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state, where a re-run election is being conducted for the State House of Assembly.
