The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Fasina, has vowed to strengthen and sustain his administration’s achievements as his tenure draws to a close.

Speaking on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting with staff and students at the university, Fasina emphasized the importance of peace as a foundation for the institution’s continued growth and development. He had just resumed from a six-month accumulated Annual and Research Leave.

Fasina, whose tenure ends early next year, expressed confidence in the university’s Governing Council to appoint a competent successor capable of sustaining the institution’s progress.

The Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone, Taiwo Owolabi, reiterated the students’ commitment to maintaining peace on campus. He warned against any attempts by individuals or union members to destabilize the university’s academic activities. “This is our university, and we are the biggest stakeholders. We will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace we enjoy under Prof. Fasina’s leadership,” Owolabi said.

The President of the FUOYE Alumni Association, Temitope Arogundade, also praised Fasina for his leadership and achievements, describing him as “an enigma and a visionary administrator.” He noted that the large turnout of staff, students, and alumni to welcome the VC underscored his popularity and impact.

Similarly, the leaders of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Abraham Ayeni and Babafemi Olusola, expressed confidence in the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to staff welfare.

Meanwhile, senior members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Akinrope Olufemi and Owonsaye Wale, called on the union’s national leadership to intervene in the ongoing internal crisis within its FUOYE chapter.

According to The PUNCH, the university’s Governing Council, at its 7th Emergency Meeting held on April 14, approved 126 working days of Fasina’s accumulated 288-day leave request.
