A group of terrorists Thursday laid ambush on the joint task security personnel and killed eight on the Gusau – Funtua highway in Zamfara state.
An eyewitness identified as Umar Musa Tsafe in a telephone interview with Blueprint stated that the bandits attacked Tungawa village in Tsafe local government and the security personnel were informed for prompt response.
He added that when the personnel comprising the police and Zamfara state community protection guards headed to the village, the bandits ambushed them which led to the death of one mobile police officer and seven members of the state community protection guards.
“As I am talking to you now, the remains of the slain officers have been evacuated to Gusau for burial,” he said.
The Tsafe local government area chairman, Hon. Garba Fanchas, confirmed the incident and condoled with the deceased officers’ families.
He described the incident as callous and barbaric, adding that the government at all levels in the state would do everything possible to address the lingering insecurity affecting the local council.
In a reaction, the Zamfara state governor, Dauda Lawal, in his Facebook page, commiserated with the families of the slain officers, noting that his government would do all it could to ensure peace returns to the state.
