Kano To Sponsor Weddings For Repentant Thugs – Hisbah Commander

The Kano State Hisbah Board has unveiled plans to sponsor the weddings of repentant thugs who have surrendered their weapons and embraced peace.

The Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed this on Wednesday, after more than 1,000 youths renounced violence.

“This programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s initiative to support youths who have turned away from crime and want to live a decent life,” Daurawa explained.

He urged sincerity, warning: “We will not tolerate those who pretend to repent just to benefit. This programme is for genuine change.”

At the screening exercise held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Governor Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the move as a bold step toward rehabilitation.

“After this, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will also screen the youths to confirm the sincerity of their repentance. We want to be sure that this change is permanent,” he said.

The governor added: “We are not just sponsoring marriages. We will empower them with start-up funds, vocational skills, and educational opportunities so they can rebuild their lives.”

Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, also weighed in, saying: “This initiative proves that the government is serious about fighting crime while giving these young people a second chance at life.”
