Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed that three more governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.
Fayose made the disclosure on Wednesday, October 15, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, following the recent defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, to the APC.

According to him, the defection wave is far from over and could soon leave the PDP with only five governors.
“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon. There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of them will struggle to catch the ticket, and they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” he said.
Fayose accused some PDP governors of destroying the party from within due to their desire for absolute control, arguing that such internal power struggles led to the party’s poor performance in 2023.
“They are largely killing the party because they want to control it. This is what happened in 2023,” he added.
The former governor also dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was pressuring opposition governors to join the APC, insisting that the defections were driven by personal ambition and political survival.
“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems. The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view,” Fayose said.
He further attributed the crisis to internal sabotage by PDP leaders, stressing that those responsible are well aware of their roles.
“Those who killed the party know themselves. There is a difference between a former governor and a sitting governor,” he noted.
Although Fayose confirmed that he remains a member of the PDP, he distanced himself from efforts to fix the party, saying the current leadership must take responsibility for the challenges it faces.
His remarks come amid mounting concern over the PDP’s dwindling influence, following the recent defections of governors from Enugu, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States to the APC.
