SPOTTED: Wale Edun visits London art fair after reports of ill health

Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of
the economy, was recently seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54
Contemporary African Art Fair in London.

The fair, which runs from October 16 to 19 at Somerset
House, features a strong Nigerian presence, with galleries such as O’DA Art
among the exhibitors.

The gallery’s exhibition, titled “Lines of Spirit”,
showcases works by Nigerian artists Simon Ojeaga, Paul Majek, and Afeez
Onakoya.

A video circulating on social media shows the minister
addressing guests at the gallery.

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson, who also shared
the video on X, confirmed that the minister is in the United Kingdom (UK).

“Finance minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the
UK. He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the
rigours of managing the Nigerian economy,” Onanuga wrote on his X page.

Edun had been reported to be indisposed and was due to
travel abroad for medical treatment.

On Sunday, Onanuga confirmed that the minister was
indisposed.

As a result of Edun’s health condition, Olayemi Cardoso,
governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led Nigeria’s delegation to the
World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington
DC, United States.

Edun reportedly left Abuja for Lagos on Monday night via
commercial flight before travelling abroad for medical care.
