Better Citizens’ Protection: Key Justice Actors Meet In Kano

The Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI), in partnership with Global Rights, has organized a capacity-building session focused on the effective implementation of the Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS) in Kano State.

The session aims to strengthen understanding and collaboration among key justice actors to ensure better protection of citizens’ rights during justice processes.

Speaking during her welcome address, the Executive Director of IWEI, Amina Hanga, emphasized the need to uphold the principle of “Justice for All”, which includes justice for women and children, adding that no one should be left behind. She noted that in many instances, there exists a level of distrust among justice actors, hence the importance of fostering cooperation to enhance citizens’ protection during the pursuit of justice.

According to her, with contributions from grassroots leaders, traditional institutions, gender advocates, and legal experts, the initiative seeks to make justice and security more accessible to everyone.

Similarly, the Assistant Director (Legal) of the Nigeria Police, CSP Nura Isa, said the training was designed to promote cordial working relationships between the police and lawyers in the course of performing their duties. He added that understanding citizens’ rights is fundamental to every effective justice administration system.

On his part, the Chairman of the Kawo CDC, Alhaji Muhammad Nura Kabiru, revealed that the collaboration between key justice actors and community representatives—which led to the establishment of the CDC has helped resolve numerous issues effectively, ensuring that citizens’ rights are adequately protected.
