Four Killed In Agatu As LG Chairman Condemns Violence

The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh, has strongly condemned the killing of four residents in Egwuma and Ogbai communities by suspected Fulani terrorists.

The victims, identified as a mother, her son, and two others, were killed on Wednesday in what the council boss described as a “barbaric and senseless attack” on innocent citizens.

“This is an unprovoked attack on our people. It’s senseless and barbaric,” Hon. Ejeh said. “How could anyone attack and kill a mother and her son who were simply working on their farm?”

While commending the swift response of security agencies, the chairman explained that the tragic incident occurred while personnel were patrolling other nearby villages.

According to him, the intervention of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Operation Anyam Nyor was crucial in preventing further casualties.

Hon. Ejeh also commended the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for his commitment to addressing insecurity, stressing that the governor’s leadership has been instrumental in supporting Agatu through recurring attacks.

Highlighting the vulnerability of Agatu due to its swampy terrain and poor road network, the chairman urged the youths to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in providing intelligence to security operatives.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities, assuring them of the council’s commitment to working closely with security agencies, traditional leaders, and the state government to forestall future attacks.

“This is a tragic loss for all of us, and we stand together in grief and solidarity,” Hon. Ejeh added.
