Soldier Kills Visitor At Estate In Delta For Not Dislosing Identity, Purpose Of Visit


The 63 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a suspect following a confrontation with a soldier on duty at the Delta Marine Logistics and Technical (DMLT) Estate in Warri, Delta State.

According to the GUARDIAN, in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed that the incident occurred on October 13 when a soldier tried to stop a group of unidentified individuals who attempted to enter the estate without completing required security checks.

“The individuals became violent and unruly after being questioned about their identities and reasons for attempting to gain entry into the restricted premises,” the statement said. “The altercation escalated into a physical struggle, during which the soldier, who acted in self-defence, employed armed combat skills and injured one of the individuals.”

The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

According to the Army, the Otu-Jeremi Police Division was immediately informed and has launched an investigation into the matter.

Captain Bawa-Rijau emphasized that the Nigerian Army remains dedicated to professionalism and respect for human rights in the course of its operations. “Respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens has always been prioritised in the discharge of our statutory responsibilities in Delta State,” he stated.

He also appealed to residents to adhere to laid-down security measures, saying: “The Brigade wishes to reiterate to the good people of Delta State the need to remain law-abiding and submit themselves to security checks in line with existing standard operating procedures.”

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Army’s commitment to continued collaboration with other security agencies to sustain peace and order across Delta State.
