Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has instructed members of his cabinet to publicly demonstrate their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu by wearing branded outfits featuring the president’s insignia.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the swearing-in of newly appointed commissioners and the inauguration of various commissions and agency boards in Benin City.
Okpebholo, who credited his electoral success to President Tinubu’s support, emphasized that loyalty to the president must be evident in both words and appearance.

He stated, “This could not have happened without a responsible president. In previous elections, our major challenge was the lack of presidential backing, but today we are grateful. I will not forgive any commissioner who fails to wear this cap. During exco meetings, anyone not wearing a suit and the Asiwaju cap will be sent back.”
The governor urged the new commissioners to view their appointments as a call to serve, not an avenue for personal gain. He reiterated that his administration would not condone corruption, stressing that each appointment was based on merit.
Okpebholo said, “Your confirmation by the State House of Assembly was purely on merit. This is not a reward for patronage but a call to serve Edo people.”
He further stated that his government’s priority is “practical governance,” adding that every official’s performance will be judged by measurable results that improve the lives of the citizens.
“Your appointment is not for money-making but for service, sacrifice, and a better life for Edo people. You must display discipline, teamwork, and integrity. Remember, this administration has zero tolerance for corruption,” the governor added.
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), was among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
