President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting the screening and confirmation of Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The request was read on Tuesday by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
According to VANGUARD, Senator Akpabio said, “The President has requested the expeditious consideration and approval of Professor Amupitan’s appointment”.

Akpabio accordingly forwarded the request to the committee of the whole for legislative action as soon as practicable.
In a separate letter, President Tinubu also sought the Senate’s confirmation of Mrs. Ayo Omidiran as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
The letter additionally included the appointment of 28 others as Federal Commissioners, among them Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi from Kwara State. The President urged the Senate to treat the requests with urgency to ensure smooth continuity in the affected offices.
