PDP Postpones NEC Meeting Amid Defections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was initially scheduled for Wednesday.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, on Monday.

According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision during an emergency meeting, citing recent developments within the party as the reason for the postponement.

“We urge all NEC members to take note of this development and await further information.”

The decision comes amid growing concerns over defections within the party, with several prominent members reportedly leaving for other political platforms.

Observers have noted that the postponement may provide the party leadership time to strategize on how to address the internal challenges and stabilize its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PDP has been under pressure following defections by influential members, with some critics arguing that the party has lost direction.

“ In a recent statement, former party officials and political commentators have stressed the need for a united front, saying, “PDP must rise again and return to its founding principles if it hopes to remain relevant in Nigeria’s political landscape.”

The party has assured members and stakeholders that despite the postponement, it remains committed to addressing internal concerns and strengthening its organizational framework.

All members of the NEC have been advised to monitor communications from the party for updates on the rescheduled meeting.
