“Open All Prisons, Set Every Criminal Free” – Lawyer Inibehe Effiong Mocks Tinubu’s Pardon Of Convicted Drug Lords, Murderers, Others

In a sharp critique of President Bola Tinubu’s recent presidential pardon list, lawyer Inibehe Effiong mocked the decision, questioning the moral and legal implications of the move.

The statements were made on Monday in an interview with Channels News.

“The decision of Mr. President to grant pardon to some of these individuals, I think, raises a lot of moral and legal questions about the message that we are sending to Nigerians and to law enforcement agencies in this country.

“For instance, what now becomes of the years of work and effort that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has put into the arrest and prosecution of these individuals?

“What message does that send to other drug traffickers who are undermining the security of this country?”

Effiong further questioned the selectiveness of the pardon, saying, “How come Evans, the notorious billionaire kidnapper, has not been pardoned?

If the President is now becoming the savior of hardened criminals, then he should go the whole way and open the prison gates of Kirikiri.”

He did not mince words about the overall legitimacy of the pardon list, adding, “I do not think some of these pardons were warranted.

“They should open the prison gate and allow all the criminals to go.”
