Kebbi State branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Federal University Birnin Kebbi Chapter, on Monday grounded academic activities to formally join the nationwide strike declared by the national body.
The Kebbi state chapter, Chairman Dr Abdurahman Yusuf Bashir said his chapter has complied totally with the directive of the national body by shutting down all academic activities in the University.
According to him at FUBK they don’t have CONUA they only have ASUU” We don’t have such body in our University we only have ASUU it doesn’t exist in our University”.
He urged parents and students to prevail on the federal government to meet their demands by signing the agreement reached.
He stressed that the union is ready for the federal government threat of ” no work no pay” saying the struggle will continue till the demands are met even as he confirmed that FUBK does not local demands but they down tools because the demands affects all Nigerian Universities.
However, the University now wears a forlorn look as they are no presence of students and all lecture theaters and halls have been shut down in compliance with the directive for the two weeks warning strike.
The industrial action will affect not only academic activities but hundreds of menial jobbers who rely on the University for their daily bread as the busy road leading to the University has been deserted.
