The Federal Government has instructed vice-chancellors of all federal universities in Nigeria to implement the “no work, no pay” policy against members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The directive comes as university lecturers continue their strike over the government’s failure to meet outstanding demands.
According to a circular dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, any employee who fails to discharge official duties during the strike period will have their salary withheld in line with the Labour Laws of the Federation.
The circular was also forwarded to key government offices, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, the Permanent Secretary of Education, Pro-Chancellors of all federal universities, the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
