Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has opened up about the club’s challenging start to the season, admitting it already feels like he has spent far longer at Old Trafford than the two months since his arrival.
United triggered the Brazilian’s £62.5 million release clause following his impressive spell at Wolves, as part of a major squad rebuild that saw the Red Devils spend £236 million in the summer transfer window.
Tough start under Amorim
Despite the heavy investment, Ruben Amorim’s side have managed just three wins from seven Premier League matches and suffered an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.
Cunha, who has yet to register a goal or assist in seven appearances, was also sidelined by a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Manchester derby defeat last month.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the 25-year-old said he is still adapting to life at United amid the club’s turbulent form.
“It’s only been two months, but it feels like I’ve been here for a long time because of the club’s current situation,” Cunha said.
“I have to get results quickly because I’m a big signing. That helps me adapt faster and perform better for both United and Brazil.”
Rediscovering joy with Brazil
Cunha’s confidence received a boost after starring in Brazil’s 5-0 victory over South Korea, where he led the attack under Carlo Ancelotti.
He described playing for Brazil and Manchester United as a “spectacular moment,” saying he has finally rediscovered the happiness he’s been searching for in his career.
“You have to remember where you came from to understand where you’ve arrived,” Cunha reflected.
“I’m enjoying this moment, wearing the jersey of one of the greatest clubs and national teams in the world.”
Eyes on the 2026 World Cup
Cunha is determined to help Brazil bounce back from the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup, with the next tournament set for 2026 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“I didn’t go to 2022, so this is special,” he said. “Now, I’m doing everything possible to be there and help write a new story for Brazil.”
The forward will now look to carry his international form into United’s upcoming Premier League clash with Liverpool, as he seeks his first goal in red.
