Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Alloy Agu has urged current players to approach their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic with focus, determination, and prayer.
The Super Eagles host Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, needing nothing less than victory to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Even with three points, Nigeria will still depend on Rwanda to beat South Africa in the other Group C fixture to stand a chance of progressing.

Agu thanks God for safe return to Nigeria
Agu, who earned 28 caps for the national team and later served as a goalkeeping coach, expressed gratitude to God after the team’s emergency landing in Angola due to a broken plane window on their return trip to Nigeria.
“First of all, we give glory to God for granting the players a safe trip back home,” the 58-year-old told Complete Sports.
“I can imagine what was going through their minds, but we thank God for taking control of the situation.”
‘They must work hard and pray’ – Agu
Speaking on the upcoming match, the former Kayserispor shot-stopper said the players must give their all on the pitch and also seek divine favour for results elsewhere.
“I’m sure the boys are self-motivated and ready to fight for the three points,” he said. “They must stay focused, give their best, and pray that the result between South Africa and Rwanda goes in our favour.”
