Service Chiefs Must Be Tougher To End Killings – Oyintiloye

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged Nigeria’s service chiefs to be more ruthless against those behind violent crimes.

He said the rising attacks nationwide demand tougher and coordinated action from the security chiefs to restore peace.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said that although the security agencies had intensified efforts to curb killings, more needed to be done to restore public confidence and bring lasting peace.

“There is no doubt that the service chiefs are doing their best to stop the killings by the bandits,” he said.

“But they need to be more ruthless with them until they quench insurgency in our land.”

The former lawmaker expressed deep concern over the recent spate of killings in Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, and Niger States, stressing that the heads of security agencies must “take the bull by the horns” and deal decisively with the criminals and their sponsors.

Oyintiloye further charged the service chiefs to look inward and identify saboteurs undermining their operations.

“I will also urge them to fish out those who might be working against their relentless efforts to crush the activities of the terrorists completely,” he added.

He called for the involvement of local security networks in intelligence gathering to strengthen counter-terrorism operations.

Commending President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for supporting the armed forces, Oyintiloye said, “With cooperation, patriotism, and faith in our nation, I believe we can defeat insecurity and restore peace in due course.”
