In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actor explained that his decision was based on the relationship they already shared before her rise to fame.

He said, “I am an adult who is like a father to her in the movie industry, and she was the only person I knew among all the housemates. Everything I do, she supports. For instance, when I did my housewarming, she stayed all through to make sure the event was fun-filled. It wouldn’t have made sense to support someone else. It was just the right thing to do.”

Speaking further on their bond, Fabiyi noted that Imisi’s journey began at his film academy. “Imisi was a student at my film academy and beyond that, she has always been supportive of my son and I, because we once stayed in the same area in Ikorodu. She has been very helpful beyond the training. When she started out, many people believed she would make it as an actress, so I began taking her to film locations to gain more experience,” he said.

When asked if he had any reservations about supporting her, considering that some people he had previously helped turned against him, the actor said he was not moved by such fears.

“I don’t think of such things. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t expect any sane person to act that way, but because we live in a social media world, some people cut off those who once helped them just to appear self-made. They don’t want anyone to have bragging rights over them, so they use social media to promote that attitude. I don’t let such things bother me, no matter the level of ingratitude,” he said.

Reacting to blogger, Esabod’s, recent advice that he should distance himself from Imisi, alleging that his involvement in past controversies might prevent Imisi from associating with him again, he stated, “People like that have no reputation or pedigree, so I don’t dignify them with a response. She doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned. There’s no need to give her any audience.”
