In a bid to ensure access to quality and affordable care for Nigerians, stakeholders have renewed calls for continuous improvement of quality healthcare services in the country.

The stakeholders made the call at a Quality Improvement Seminar organised by the Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV), a faith-based health institution owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Speaking at the event, Prof. Philip Abiodun, Chairman, National Tertiary Institutions Standard Committee, Federal Ministry of Health, highlighted the importance of continuous quality healthcare delivery to the wellbeing of the people.

Abiodun, who was the Chairman of the event with the theme “Continuous Quality Improvement As a Critical Tool in Universal Health Coverage”, said all health institutions must strive to improve on its quality.

He said:”There is no point having care system that doesn’t improve on the quality of the healthcare of the people in a nation.

“If you build a hosptal, you must have an intention to improve upon it and your main goal should be centred on improving the quality of care of the people.

“This seminar by the RHV is commendable and it is a reminder to all the various health associations and organisations present here that quality in our health institutions and hospitals must be a continuous process.

“The quality of healthcare in our tertiary institutions depends on the quality of care in our primary and secondary facilities,” he said.

The chairman noted that the committee saddled with the responsibility of accrediting tertiary health institutions in the country, should ensure that institutions adhered to continuous quality improvement.

Also, Dr Kunle Onakoya, the Chairman of the Board of the Redeemer’s Health Village, said hospitals must provide quality care and be patients’ safety concious continuously.

Onakoya said the seminar aimed to remind relevant health stakeholders in both public and private sectors to always pursue patients’ satisfaction through quality care.

“The core of what a hospital provides must be quality of care and safety of patients.

“It must be at the heart of what we do, we can’t just assume it will happen,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of RHV, Dr Adedamola Dada, said the 300-bed health institution prioritises quality, patients’ safety and provides care in all health expertise to patients.

Dada, a former Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Ebute Meta, Lagos, said one of the aims of the seminar was to incorporate the hospital as part of the healthcare delivery in Ogun.

According to him, the hospital has 16-bed Intensive Care Unit, five fully equipped Theatre Suits for surgical procedures and an MRI with the biggest bore for patients, over 200jg, in the whole of West Africa.

Dada, an Orthorpedic Surgeon, urged Ogun, Lagos and states beyond to take advantage of the world-class health institution to access quality and affordable care. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
