APC National Chairman Inaugurates Seven-Member Enugu Caretaker Committee

Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), today inaugurated a seven-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s operations in Enugu State, following the dissolution of the state’s executive committee in a bid to reposition the APC for greater unity and effectiveness.

The inauguration ceremony, held at 10:00 a.m. at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, was presided over by Yilwatda and attended by members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Dr. Ben Nwoye, a former Enugu State APC Chairman who resigned earlier this year citing internal crises, was sworn in as the committee’s Chairman.

Hon. Eugene Odoh, former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly and ex-PDP member, was appointed Secretary.

The decision stems from the NWC’s 179th meeting on Thursday, October 9, where the Enugu executive was dissolved with immediate effect after a comprehensive review of the party’s affairs in the state.

The move is widely seen as paving the way for the anticipated defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, with Nwoye positioned to facilitate a smooth transition and assume a leadership role under Mbah.

Sources indicate Mbah met with Nwoye shortly after the announcement, signaling his intent to join the ruling party.

The full Caretaker Committee lineup includes: Dr. Ben Nwoye (Chairman), Hon. Eugene Odoh (Secretary), and five other members yet to be publicly detailed in official statements.

The committee’s mandate is to manage day-to-day party activities, resolve internal disputes, and prepare for substantive elections, amid ongoing tensions from past suspensions and factional rivalries involving figures like former Chairman Ugo Agballah, an ally of ex-Minister Uche Nnaji who recently resigned over certificate forgery allegations.

Yilwatda emphasized the APC’s commitment to unity during the inauguration, stating that the overhaul would strengthen the party’s foothold in the Southeast ahead of future elections.
