Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on a military base in Ngamdu, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of Friday.
The assault targeted troops stationed along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, according to Daily Trust.
The attackers, arriving in large numbers, caught the soldiers off guard, leading to a prolonged engagement.
The military temporarily closed the Ngamdu road, causing delays for motorists and commercial drivers until around 11:20 AM. A traveler, speaking anonymously, recounted being delayed en route from Damaturu to Maiduguri, with residents claiming the insurgents killed and wounded several soldiers.
A security source, however, downplayed the reported casualties, stating that the troops successfully repelled the ambush.
“Our gallant soldiers put up a good fight,” the source said, confirming that some soldiers were injured and hospitalized, while many insurgents were killed during the clash.
The military is yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of this report.
