Lagos Seals Nordic Hotel Over Illegal Wastewater Discharge

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed the Nordic Hotel in Victoria Island for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into public drains, an action deemed detrimental to both the environment and public health.

The enforcement action, executed on Thursday, October 9, 2025, underscores the state government’s intensified efforts to enforce environmental sustainability and uphold stringent public health standards.Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced that the closure is part of a broader initiative to curb practices that jeopardize Lagos’s ecosystem and residents’ well-being.

“Discharging untreated wastewater into public drains is unacceptable and poses serious risks to our environment and public health,” Wahab stated, emphasizing the state’s commitment to creating a cleaner and safer Lagos.

The LSWMO’s action against Nordic Hotel follows inspections revealing non-compliance with wastewater management regulations.

The sealing of the hotel serves as a warning to other establishments, with the state government vowing to intensify enforcement across Lagos to ensure adherence to environmental laws.

This move aligns with ongoing efforts to promote sustainable urban development and safeguard the city’s water resources.

Authorities have urged businesses and residents to comply with wastewater disposal guidelines, stressing that violators will face strict penalties.
