The chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Bassey Ewa, says the party is suffering the painful consequences of disunity.
Hon. Ewa, a former speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, disclosed this in his inaugural address to stakeholders of the party in Calabar.
He said the party cannot continue to be divided by personal interests and narrow leadership styles.
“For too long, our great party in this state has been divided by personal interests and narrow leadership styles.
“Over the past four years, we have seen the painful consequences of disunity and exclusion.
“We cannot continue with a system where the opinion of a few people, even when wrong, is treated as law, while the majority are silenced,” he said.
The time has come, he added, to restore trust, fairness, and inclusiveness in the Cross River State PDP.
To this end, the caretaker chairman said the assignment of the committee is to reconcile members and bring everyone back under one umbrella as well as to rebuild the structures of the PDP at every level.
He also said he hopes to prepare the PDP to deliver people from the ruling APC, both in Cross River State and across Nigeria.
On the September 27, 2025 “congress” of the party in the state which produced Venatius Ikem as party chairman, he said it remains a nullity.
