Nigeria Police Suspend Enforcement Of Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit Following Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of the enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits after a court issued an order halting the exercise.

Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development during a Wednesday interview on AIT.

Adeh stated that the decision followed the official receipt of the court order by the police.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh said.

She emphasized that the suspension will remain in effect until the court delivers its final ruling on the matter.

“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” Adeh added.

Clarifying the purpose of the tinted glass regulation, Adeh explained that it was primarily introduced for security reasons, noting that some criminal activities had been executed using vehicles with heavily tinted windows.

“The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she stated.

Addressing concerns that the policy was financially motivated, Adeh confirmed that all payments for tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) and not to the police.
