“She will take over the duties of the National Chairman until a permanent appointment is made.”
He added, “The continuity of INEC’s operations is crucial, and I am confident that under Agbamuche’s leadership, the commission will maintain its integrity and efficiency.”
Agbamuche, in her acceptance remarks, thanked her colleagues and expressed her commitment to ensuring a smooth transition.
She stated, “I am deeply honoured to serve in this capacity and pledge to uphold the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability in all commission activities.”
She further emphasised, “We will work tirelessly to ensure that every Nigerian has a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process, and that the integrity of our elections is preserved.”
The handover underscores INEC’s preparedness for the upcoming governorship elections scheduled to hold on November as well as other ongoing electoral reforms.
Professor Yakubu also reassured Nigerians, saying, “Our ultimate aim is to strengthen democracy by providing citizens with credible, efficient, and accessible elections.”
Yakubu, in a letter dated October 3, requested that his resignation takes effect on October 7, a month to the end of his tenure, November 9, which is a day after Anambra governorship election.
