Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, says he is confident his team can overcome Argentina and book a spot at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup Quarter-finals as both sides clash tonight in Santiago.
Nigeria, seven-time African champions, face the South Americans in a Round of 16 showdown that promises to test their tactical discipline and mental strength.
It will be the third meeting between both nations at this level, with Argentina winning the 2005 final 2-1 and Nigeria claiming victory in the Round of 16 two years ago.
In Argentina’s last five games, they have recorded successive wins, while the Flying Eagles have recorded two defeats, two wins, and a draw.
Despite Argentina’s strong form, having won all three of their group matches in the ongoing U-20 World Cup, Zubairu believes his side can rise to the occasion with the right approach.
“We have seen Argentina, we have seen their strengths, and we will try to neutralise them,” the Flying Eagles coach said during his pre-match press conference.
“We have been able to pick out their deficiencies, and we are going to work on that. On Wednesday, we’ll take advantage of what we’ve observed and, hopefully, we win the game.”
Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (Nigerian Time) on Wednesday night, October 8, 2025, at the Julio Martinez Pradanos National Stadium in Santiago.
