The Gamaliel And Susan Foundation has given an ex-student of Rehoboth College, Ilorin, Kwara State, Shalom Adesina, an Award of Excellence for achieving the rare distinction of all A’s in the 2023 West African Examination Council (WAEC) result.
Led by Mr. Gerald Obasi, the foundation visited the school to present the award to the high-achieving student.
Obasi said the student was recognised when he achieved the feat, but the celebration was delayed due to a period of mourning observed by the Foundation.
He said that the Foundation had been closed for over a year following the 2023 death of Mrs. Susan Onosode, who had carried on the legacy of her late husband, the founder.
At the ceremony held in the school premises yesterday, the Foundation recognised both the student and the institution.
Obasi presented the award to Adesina who was accompanied by his parents, as well as a separate award to the school for its efforts in producing excellent students.
The award recipient, Adesina Shalom, became emotional as he thanked the school.
He said that the college, through Engr. Popoola’s benevolence, had trained him without collecting a dime due to his parents poor economic status.
He expressed his deepest gratitude, praying for the school’s continued growth and longevity for the proprietors.
The Foundation presented the school with a gift package that included a plaque, notebooks, and a cheque for N100,000.
The school’s principal, Mr. AbdulMalik Sheidu commended the Foundation for the recognition and used the opportunity to emphasise the school’s commitment to academic integrity.
He attributed the school’s success to God, the teachers’ efforts, and the owners’ dedication.
