Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, the head of the Osun Amotekun Corps, narrowly survived an attack on his life after gunmen ambushed him in Osogbo on Monday night, raising serious concerns about security for top state officials.
The incident was confirmed by the corps’ spokesperson, Mr. Abass Yusuf, in a statement released to newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Yusuf said the ambush took place at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Ikirun Road, directly opposite Charity Hotel.

He explained that the commander was returning home alone after completing official duties when the assailants opened fire, leaving his vehicle riddled with bullets.
“It is deeply troubling that Amotekun Commander could be targeted in such a coordinated and vicious manner,” Yusuf said.
The spokesperson further revealed that a separate attack occurred the previous day, when 15 masked men reportedly invaded Omoyele’s private residence. Witnesses stated that the attackers arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV.
Yusuf noted that these incidents underscore the growing threat to security officials who are responsible for maintaining safety in the state.
“The corps urged citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to local security agencies for prompt responses and actions. The attack is not just an attack on one man but on the symbol of localised security structure,” he added.
The spokesperson confirmed that Commander Omoyele sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility under strict protective watch.
Yusuf said the matter has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, with investigations into the attack ongoing.
