About 13,000 Benefit From Lami Health Foundation In Benue Communities


MAKURDI: About 13,000 residents of Ado Local Government Area (LGA), of Benue State, living with various medical and surgical conditions have benefitted from the 7-day health outreach, organised by the Lami Health Foundation for residents of Ado.

The outreach which was powdered by the Deputy Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly (BNHA), Lami Danladi, was concluded with a mop-up exercise at Apa-Agila, an initiative to ensure that no patient was left unattended to directly impacted the health and wellbeing of the benefitting constituents.

According to the Deputy Speaker, the medical and surgical outreach which has brought about relief to the people of Ado Local Government Area, and also impacted the health and wellbeing of over 13,000 constituents who had been living with various medical and surgical conditions prior to the intervention.

During the outreach, a total of 140 medical procedures were performed and 3,667 medicated glasses (lenses) issued out, with some beneficiaries receiving two different types each for different purposes.

According to the statistics released from the medical outreach, a total of 13,117 beneficiaries received medical attention across the designated centres.

At Ukwonyo-Utonkon, a total of 2,217 general outpatient cases were recorded, alongside 2,457 eye cases.

Similarly, 35 surgical procedures were successfully carried out, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in Ukwonyo to 4,709.

Also, at the outreach held in Igumale, the medical team attended to 1,919 general cases and 1,968 eye patients, while 58 surgical operations were conducted. The total number of beneficiaries at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Igumale, stood at 3,945.

However, at Ijigban, which served as the venue for the Ari outreach, 2,008 general cases were recorded, while 2,087, received eye cases. Furthermore, some surgical procedures were performed on the first and second days.

We further learned that referred surgical cases from previous centres were also addressed: 11 cases referred from Ukwonyo-Utonkon were successfully operated on in Igumale, while other cases from the area were handled in Ijigban.

However, during the mop-up exercise at Apa-Agila, a total of 321 people were examined for various eye conditions and were treated accordingly.

Patients at the outreach were treated for malaria, typhoid, ulcer, HBP, high blood glucose level (diabetes), HVS, cold and cough, amongst others.

Also, Supplements, Vitamins, Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) and Delivery Packs were distributed, just as there were surgical procedures for hernia repairs, complex cases such as umbilical and strangulated Inguinal hernias, hydrocelectomies, appendectomy, lipoma excision, lumps removal, abnormal growth removal, and joined fingers separation, were also attended to during the exercise.

Beneficiaries at the Lami Health Foundation’s Medical outreach observed that the initiative was unprecedented in the history of Ado LGA, and have directly impacted the health and well-being of thousands of families and communities of Ado and beyond.
