The Cross River Police Command has detained three Egyptian nationals for allegedly assaulting a female security officer at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Ayan, 24; Mohammed Mohammed, 40; and Ahmed Mohammed, 20, were apprehended after entering the hospital premises around noon on Monday to hawk household items, an activity banned within the facility.
According to sources cited by Zagazola, Christiana Ada Ewa, a 34-year-old security officer in the hospital’s surveillance unit, confronted the men to enforce the no-hawking rule.
During the encounter, Ayan allegedly attacked her. Another security officer, Ethan Ita Ansa, 24, stepped in to assist, leading to a physical confrontation.
Ansa’s uniform was torn, and he sustained a finger injury, while Ayan received bruises on his right eyebrow and knees.
Police detectives responded swiftly, arresting the suspects at the scene. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
