Parliamentary staff to picket n’assembly over ‘unpaid allowances’

Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria
(PASAN), national assembly chapter, have notified management of plans to
commence picketing over allegations of fraud, unpaid allowances and
interference in union activities.

In a letter dated October 3, 2025, and addressed to the
clerk of the national assembly, the aggrieved staff accused the management of
intimidation, harassment, and victimisation of members who demanded
accountability.

The group cited provisions of the PASAN constitution, which
mandate the executive council to present audited accounts and financial returns
to congress, alleging that former executive officers were removed in July 2024
for failing to comply.

They accused the clerk of attempting to reinstate the ousted
executives despite the resolution of congress, saying such actions had fuelled
suspicions of financial impropriety and laundering of union funds.

The staff also listed a series of grievances, including
short payments of salaries and allowances, diversion of training funds,
non-remittance of statutory deductions such as pension and housing fund, and
failure to implement the consolidated legislative salary structure (CONLESS).

Other demands include full payment of rent subsidy, peculiar
and hazard allowances, medical benefits, implementation of the N70,000 minimum
wage, provision of staff buses, and the inauguration of the national assembly
service pension board.

“Your decision to protect the ousted executives has
heightened suspicion that management, in concert with the exco, laundered funds
through PASAN accounts,” the letter reads.

They accused the leadership of ignoring repeated calls for
dialogue, saying they were left with no option but to peacefully picket the
national assembly from October 7, 2025.

Copies of the letter were sent to the sergeant-at-arms and
the Department of State Services (DSS) at the national assembly, requesting
security protection during the protest.
