Dangote Initiates $2.5bn Fertiliser Plant Construction in Ethiopia

Africa’s leading industrial conglomerate, the Dangote Group, has commenced construction of a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Ethiopia, marking a significant step in its regional expansion.

The project, spearheaded by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, aims to bolster agricultural productivity in East Africa by producing high-quality fertilisers to meet local and regional demand.

The state-of-the-art facility, located in Ethiopia’s industrial corridor, is expected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate economic growth.

It will focus on producing urea and ammonia, key components for enhancing crop yields. The plant aligns with Ethiopia’s push for agricultural transformation and food security, reducing reliance on imported fertilisers.

Dangote Group emphasized that the project will leverage advanced technology to ensure environmental sustainability and efficiency. The initiative is also seen as a boost to Ethiopia’s industrial sector, fostering foreign investment and infrastructure development.

This move follows Dangote’s successful ventures in cement and refinery projects across Africa, reinforcing the group’s commitment to driving industrialization and self-sufficiency in critical sectors.

The fertiliser plant is slated for completion within the next few years, positioning Ethiopia as a key player in the regional agricultural market.
