Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, on 4th October 2025, stormed Aguleri and arrested Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu.
He is said to be the prime suspect in the gruesome beheading of the late Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, a 69-year-old resident of Umuleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in Awka on Sunday that the suspect had allegedly been evading arrest since 22nd July 2024 following the murder and beheading of Mrs. Akubi.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and identified other members of his gang who participated in the heinous act. He also revealed the whereabouts of the victim’s head, which had been taken away after the murder.

The police have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the remaining gang members, ensuring that justice will be fully served.
SP Ikenga stated that further updates on the investigation and arrests will be communicated in due course.
