As Big Brother Naija Season 10 draws to a close tonight, the anticipation of who will join the hall of fame of winners can be felt.
Over the years, the reality show has grown from an experimental spin-off in 2006 to one of Africa’s most watched television franchises, consistently birthing stars, and transforming the lives of its housemates.
Each season has produced a winner whose journey reflects not just entertainment but also fame and opportunity in Nigeria.
From the very first winner, Katung Aduwak, to last year’s champion, KellyRae, the Big Brother Naija winners embodies a mix of talent, entertainment, chaos and vibes.
Katung Aduwak, who emerged as the very first BBNaija winner in 2006, took home $100,000 at a time when reality television was still a novelty in Nigeria. His post-house journey steered away from the spotlight of celebrity endorsements and leaned into creative storytelling. Katung became a filmmaker and media executive, producing content that reflected his deep interest in culture and society. His career in directing and production, including the film Heaven’s Hell, marked him as a pioneer who proved that BBNaija could be a launchpad to more serious ventures.
More than a decade later, in 2017, Michael “Efe” Ejeba became the people’s favorite, riding on his relatable “based on logistics” catchphrase to win Season 2. With ₦25 million and an SUV, Efe embraced his passion for music. Though his career has faced ups and downs, he remains active in the entertainment industry, performing, recording, and occasionally giving back through philanthropic work in his hometown of Jos.
Season 3 crowned Miracle Igbokwe in 2018, a young man whose calm demeanor and determination won over viewers. Unlike his predecessors who leaned into entertainment, Miracle pursued his long-standing dream of becoming a pilot. With his ₦45 million prize package, he traveled abroad to further his aviation training and has since earned licenses to fly advanced aircraft, most recently becoming a certified Gulfstream pilot. His quiet but inspiring path shows the diverse directions BBNaija winners can take.
In 2019, the world met Mercy Eke, fondly called “Lambo,” who became the first female winner in BBNaija history. Claiming ₦60 million worth of prizes, Mercy capitalized on her fame with savvy business moves. Today, she is not only a social media powerhouse but also an actress and fashion entrepreneur. Her ability to maintain relevance over the years has cemented her as one of the most influential alumni of the show.
The following year, in 2020, the lockdown edition introduced viewers to Laycon, a rapper and intellectual whose lyrical prowess and humility captured Nigeria’s heart. Walking away with ₦85 million, Laycon quickly translated his fame into a music career, dropping albums and collaborating with major artists. He also embraced roles as a youth ambassador, using his platform to inspire young Nigerians to chase their dreams.
In 2021, Hazel Oyeze Onou, popularly known as Whitemoney, charmed viewers with his humor, resilience, and street smarts to claim the ₦90 million grand prize. His post-show journey has been as colorful as his time in the house. Whitemoney has dabbled in music, launched businesses, and bagged several ambassadorial deals, often projecting his persona as the quintessential “man of the people.”
Phyna, born Ijeoma Otabor, stormed her way to victory in Season 7, held in 2022. With ₦100 million to her name, she has since made strides as an actress and brand influencer. Known for her outspoken nature and energetic personality, Phyna has built a strong fan base while also branching into Nollywood.
Season 8 in 2023 was unique — the “All Stars” edition, where past contestants returned to compete. Against all odds, Ilebaye Odiniya, the youngest housemate at the time, clinched victory and walked away with ₦120 million, the biggest prize so far. Her win symbolized the rise of a new generation of stars, and she has since focused on fashion, beauty, and brand collaborations, becoming a darling of youth culture.
Last year, Season 9 introduced viewers to Kingsley “KellyRae” Sule, who won the themed “No Loose Guard” edition. Claiming ₦100 million in cash and prizes, KellyRae has been building a name for himself as a singer and influencer while making early moves into acting. His confidence and artistry continue to drive his growing presence in the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
Tonight, one of the 9 remaining finalists of season 10; Dede, Kola, Koyin, Imisi, Jason Jae, Isabella, Sultana, Mensan, and Kaybobo will be crowned the winner and join the hall of famers.
