The Republic of Ghana will host the 2025 edition of the African Women Conference (AWC) from November 26 to 28, bringing together leading voices from across Africa and the diaspora to advance gender equity, leadership, and sustainable development on the continent.
Themed “Legacy Meets Innovation: Women Forging New Pathways for Africa’s Sustainable Development,” the high-level conference will convene women leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and advocates for three days of dialogue, collaboration, and policy innovation.
According to a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Aisha A. Adamu, the 9th edition of the AWC will feature keynote speeches, plenary sessions, and strategic roundtables focused on digital inclusion, climate resilience, leadership mentoring, and financing for women-led enterprises.
Adamu explained that the decision to host this year’s conference in Ghana reflects the country’s long-standing commitment to democracy, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment.
“The shift from South Africa to Ghana follows extensive consultations with partners and delegates across Africa. It is a strategic step to enhance accessibility and participation core values on which AWC was founded,” the statement said.
The event is expected to attract First Ladies, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Heads of International Organizations, Civil Society Leaders, and Women in Business from across the continent.
Previous editions have been hosted by countries including Namibia, Morocco, Rwanda, The Gambia, Ethiopia, and Zambia. Nigeria is billed to host the 10th edition in 2026.
This year’s gathering is expected to culminate in a Joint Communiqué and Action Framework to guide national and regional policies on gender inclusion and institutional reforms that uplift women and girls across Africa.
Since its inception, the African Women Conference has served as a rallying platform for women to share experiences, strengthen solidarity, and contribute to achieving the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
