Deputy Speaker Kalu Urges Tinubu to Establish Seaport in South East

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to establish a seaport in the South East to boost trade in the region, emphasizing the commercial prowess of South Easterners.

Speaking at a reception held at Enyimba International Stadium in Abia on Friday, following the inauguration of state projects, Kalu expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s support in Abia and the broader South East.

“Mr. President, South Easterners are primarily traders, and a seaport would enhance our trading capacity,” Kalu stated.

He also raised concerns about the demolition of Igbo-owned properties in Lagos, describing the actions as heartbreaking amid economic hardships.

Kalu urged Tinubu to engage the Lagos State governor to allow affected Igbo residents to regularize their property documents, advocating for amicable resolutions over demolitions.

Highlighting the importance of federal-state collaboration, Kalu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Abia Governor Alex Otti to ensure the state’s success.

Having accompanied Otti to inspect projects throughout the day, Kalu commended the governor’s efforts but urged him to “do more” for Abia’s development.

Kalu also thanked Tinubu for his contributions to Abia’s projects and encouraged the state’s Information Commissioner and local media to give the president due recognition, noting that such acknowledgment could spur further development in Abia and the South East.
