The Lagos State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of the law regulating the use of tinted glasses on vehicles across the state. The exercise, which began on 2 October 2025, continued on Friday, 3 October, with renewed momentum and heightened supervision by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh.
In a statement released on X on Friday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said the exercise aligns with existing laws and directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
According to the statement titled “Lagos State Police Command Commences Full Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permits, CP Olohundare Jimoh Leads Operation,” CP Jimoh personally led officers on the field to ensure professionalism and strict adherence to the law.
He explained that “the exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens, but to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities, and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.”
The Command urged vehicle owners without valid tinted glass permits to regularise their status immediately by registering at possap.gov.ng. It further advised those not interested in obtaining the permit to “remove such tints or replace factory-fitted tinted glasses with transparent ones, in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.”
The police warned that vehicles found with tinted glasses without valid permits would be impounded and offenders prosecuted. CP Jimoh also directed all police officers across the state to conduct the exercise “with the highest level of professionalism, free from harassment or extortion,” adding that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary measures while their commanders would be held “vicariously liable.”
The Command urged Lagos residents to cooperate with police officers during the operation and to report any case of misconduct through its complaint response channels. It assured the public that the enforcement would be carried out “with fairness, respect for citizens’ rights, and in the collective interest of security.”
For complaints or reports of misconduct, residents are encouraged to contact the Lagos State Police Command Complaint Response Unit via the provided telephone lines or through its official social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) – @LagosPoliceNG, @CruLagospolice; Facebook – @NPF Lagos; and Instagram – @Policeng_Lagos.
SP Abimbola Adebisi concluded the statement by reaffirming the Command’s “unwavering commitment to making the state safer for all.”
