The Military High Command on Saturday announced the arrest of 16 officers over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the disclosure was made in a statement released to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the grievances of the affected officers were largely linked to perceived career stagnation, citing repeated failures in promotion examinations as a major factor.

Brig-Gen Gusau explained that the arrests were part of ongoing routine measures aimed at preserving order, discipline, and loyalty within the Armed Forces, warning that the military would not condone any behaviour capable of undermining its institutional integrity or threatening its constitutional role under democratic governance.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a routine military exercise has resulted in the arrest of sixteen officers over issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations.
“Investigations revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues,” the statement read.
The Defence spokesperson further disclosed that some of the apprehended officers had long been under military jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial, adding that their conduct was found to be inconsistent with the values and standards expected of military personnel.
“Upon completion of the investigation, indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces,” Gusau stated.
Reassuring the public of the military’s commitment to professionalism, he added: “The Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that these actions are strictly disciplinary in nature and part of routine efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks.
The Armed Forces will not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will remain professional at all times.”
The development underscores the military’s ongoing internal efforts to address discipline-related challenges and maintain public confidence in the Armed Forces’ constitutional mandate.
