16 Military Officers Arrested for Alleged Indiscipline, Breach of Service Regulations

The Defence Headquarters announced the arrest of 16 military officers for acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations, as stated by Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

The arrests followed a routine military exercise aimed at upholding discipline and professionalism within the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Investigations revealed that some officers’ grievances were linked to perceived career stagnation due to repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service-related issues.

Several of the apprehended officers were already under investigation or trial for prior offenses, with their conduct deemed incompatible with military standards.

Gusau emphasized that all indicted officers would undergo a full military disciplinary process upon completion of investigations, in line with established procedures.

He described the actions as part of routine efforts to ensure accountability, maintain order, and preserve professionalism within the ranks.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria assures the public that these measures are strictly disciplinary and reaffirms its commitment to its constitutional responsibilities,” Gusau stated.

He stressed that any behavior undermining the institution’s integrity or threatening its role under democratic authority would not be tolerated.
