Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has taken a swipe at the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that the former Anambra governor lacked the capacity to rescue Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Akume dismissed Obi’s political message of “rescuing Nigeria” as unrealistic.
He argued that Obi failed to deliver as governor of Anambra State, and therefore cannot convince Nigerians he has what it takes to transform the country.

“For other people I don’t want to mention their names.
“They came, they saw, they didn’t conquer even in their states,” Akume stated, in what appeared to be a subtle reference to Obi and other opposition figures.
He maintained that President Bola Tinubu remains the right leader to guide Nigeria through its current challenges, stressing that despite inheriting a troubled economy, the administration had already made significant progress.
“I know he inherited a very bad economy but we are out of it.
Today, our Gross Domestic Product, GDP, has grown by 4.4%,” Akume said.
He further praised Tinubu’s leadership style, describing him as a unifying figure. According to him, “He’s a Muslim but at peace with all of us: Christians, Muslims and traditionalists.
“Nigeria is a huge country in the move, and under his direction, we know that we are going to reach the promised land.”
Akume, who emphasised national unity and resilience, questioned why some politicians continue to parade themselves as Nigeria’s saviors.
“What are people hanging around talking about? Coming to rescue Nigeria.
“Which Nigeria? If Peter Obi could not rescue Anambra, he’s talking of rescuing the 36 states and Abuja,” he queried.
