Kano State Government has flagged off the payment of a total of N5.6 billion to 1,198 former Councillors in the state.

The payment, the second in the series, represents unpaid gratuities and allowances owed to the former councillors in the state.

Speaking at the kick off ceremony held at the Government House, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf said the payment followed an earlier payment of N1.8 billion to 903 councillors who served between 2014 and 2017.

He described the payment as justice, fairness and restoration of dignity to the affected former councillors, insisting that it reflects his commitment to honour past public officers who had served the state.

Yusuf indicated that preparations were underway to effect the final payment N8.2 billion to 1,371 councillors and assured that the last cycle of payment would be completed by the second week of November.

Many of the beneficiaries commended Governor Yusuf for the payment and expressed gratitude to Allah for the reciept of the payment of their gratuities.
