Abuja Stands Out As Haven Of Peace Amid National Challenges – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that Abuja remains one of the safest and most peaceful places to live in Nigeria.

Delivering his Independence Day message on Wednesday, to mark the country’s 65th anniversary, Wike credited the stability of the FCT to both government action and residents’ commitment to peace.

“Residents have remained intentional about living together in peace and harmony in spite of a few distractions. Consequently, the FCT has become one of the most peaceful places to reside in the entire country,” he said.

The minister explained that Abuja’s calmness is a product of strong security measures by the FCT Administration in partnership with law enforcement agencies, and the “zero tolerance of residents for insecurity.”

He commended citizens for their vigilance and urged them to keep supporting the administration by reporting suspicious activities.

Wike also tied the relative peace in Abuja to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has strengthened security and accelerated development across the capital.

“We have reconstructed schools and hospitals, built strategic roads, empowered youths and women, and supported our farmers.

“These interventions are strengthening the economy of the FCT and improving living standards,” he noted.

Looking ahead, he urged residents to maintain Abuja’s reputation for peace during the February 2026 area council elections.

“I implore residents to go about campaigning for candidates of their choice in a peaceful and orderly manner.

“I also encourage everyone to come out en masse to vote for leaders who have vision and capacity to attract development,” Wike appealed.

He concluded by stressing that Abuja’s security record shows what can be achieved when government and citizens work together.
