AS Roma have officially announced the signing of Jamaica international Leon Bailey from Aston Villa on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Serie A club confirmed the 28-year-old winger’s arrival, noting he becomes the first Jamaican footballer in Roma’s history.
Bailey, who began his European career at Genk before spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa, will wear the No. 31 shirt.
“AS Roma are delighted to announce the signing of Leon Bailey from Aston Villa. The winger joins the club on loan with an option to buy,” the Giallorossi said.
Bailey arrived in Rome earlier this week, where he was greeted by fans at Fiumicino Airport before completing his medical.
He becomes Roma’s sixth summer signing, following Daniele Ghilardi, Evan Ferguson, Neil El Aynaoui, Devis Vasquez, and Wesley.
The Jamaican forward made 38 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa last season, contributing two goals and four assists.
He previously scored 39 goals and registered 25 assists in 156 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, leading to a €32m transfer to Villa in 2021.
Bailey’s arrival could also aid Roma’s pursuit of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who remains a close friend of the new signing.
