Why I plotted President Trump’s assassination – 50-year-old woman

Nathalie Rose Jones, a 50-year-old woman from Lafayette, Indiana, has revealed why she plotted to assassinate United States President Donald Trump.

Jones was apprehended on August 16, 2025, after travelling to Washington, D.C.  to “kidnap and assassinate” Trump, as revealed in a press statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia published on August 18, 2025.

She posted graphic threats on Facebook and Instagram, including a post with the words, “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disembowelling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.”

Jones further wrote about an “arrest and removal ceremony” scheduled for Trump.

An investigation was launched by the U.S. Secret Service, and Jones’ identity as the author of the social media posts was uncovered.

Speaking in an interview on August 15, she reportedly admitted to making the threats, disclosing to agents that she would attempt an assassination if an opportunity presents itself.

Jones said her mission was to avenge lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, she later recanted her words, with the claim that she no longer intended to harm the president.

She is charged with threatening the life of the president and transmitting interstate communications containing threats to kidnap or injure another person.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that both are federal offences that carry potential penalties of up to five years in prison each.

“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasised.

Per reports, Jones has struggled with mental illness, which she acknowledged on social media.
